Progress made on state’s plan for 24-inch gas pipeline from slope

Progress is being made on the state’s 24-inch gas pipeline project. A 474-mile state right-of-way was granted to the state’s planned 24-inch gas pipeline July 25, and a Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the $7.5 billion project is due in August. Doyon will continue gas exploration in Nenana Basin near Fairbanks

Doyon, Ltd., the Interior Alaska Native regional corporation, is planning new seismic work this winter in the northern part of the Nenana Basin, an Interior Alaska basin about 60 miles west of Fairbanks that is considered gas prone but also has oil potential. About 120 miles of two-dimensional seismic is planned for this winter. Slope-Fairbanks LNG trucking will complicate state “bullet” gas line

The announcement by Golden Valley Electric Association and Flint Hills Resources Aug. 5 that they will pursue a liquefied natural gas trucking operation from the North Slope may complicate the state’s proposal to build a 24-inch natural gas pipeline from the slope.
