Kenai looks at tourism tax hike
The Kenai Borough is looking at a 12 percent “bed” tax on the hospitality industry to raise new funds mainly for schools, but tourism operators are pushing back arguing the unfairness of raising taxes at the start of the summer visitor season. The borough assembly has put off consideration of the tax to gather more input. The new tax would raise $1 million in added revenue in Fiscal 2020, which begins in July, and $2 million annually in the following two years, Fiscal 2021 and 2022.
